Featured Artists Biography - Linda Meyer
Browning - Watercolor
"My emotional response to color stirs me to paint. My
love of flora and fauna directs what I paint.
Light and shadow define how I paint it.
I use just
six watercolor pigments. From those I can get every
hue and shade I need. In this way I achieve harmony
and cohesiveness from painting to painting in an
entire body of work. The creative process of
painting is about passion…mine. It’s also about
sharing...my awe of
nature with the viewer." Linda has painted ever since she was old enough to hold a brush. Brilliant fall foliage and blankets of snow were her inspiration when she was growing up in western N.Y. state, and paintings depicting these subjects won her blue ribbons in art competitions as well as a college art scholarship.Linda attended West Virginia University in Morgantown and Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.After working as a commercial artist and as a medical artist, she moved to Hatteras Island where she met her husband and established Browning Artworks, the island’s first fine art and craft gallery. Twenty successful years later, the Brownings closed their gallery so that Linda could return to her long-neglected art career.
Since then, Linda has participated in numerous group exhibitions as well as one- and two-woman shows. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, the Dare County Arts Council, and the Hatteras Island Art and Craft Guild. When Linda is not painting, she is giving lessons to budding artists, birdwatching, exploring the dunes, playing guitar, or leading song at Our Lady of the Seas Catholic Church in Buxton, N.C.
Coastal scenes and aquatic themes are her inspiration today. Whether it's capturing the expanse of feathered wings in flight or the shadows on sand dunes in morning light, Linda shares with the viewer the love that she has for her cherished Hatteras Island home.
